In this special episode of the Fit Mother Project Podcast, I’m stepping outside my usual role as your health educator to celebrate a milestone — 15 years since I started Fit Father Project, hundreds of episodes recorded, and thousands of videos produced for our community.

So instead of talking nutrition or training today, I wanted to share something different: 10 lessons I’ve learned over the last 15 years about attention, adaptability, stress, service, and what it actually means to build a fulfilling life.

I’m sharing this not as your coach, but as a fellow human on this journey — a CEO, a health educator, a father, and a friend who has learned these truths the hard way, through business challenges, personal loss, a broken leg, and a lot of self-reflection along the way.

If you’ve been feeling exhausted, stretched thin, or like you’re doing everything “right” but still not feeling like yourself, I believe these lessons will meet you exactly where you are.

Fit Mother Project Key Takeaways:

 • Your attention is your most valuable resource — in a world designed to fragment it, protecting and directing it intentionally is one of the most powerful things you can do for your mental health.

 • Effort alone doesn’t win — the right model does. If you’re working hard and still frustrated, it’s time to reassess your approach, not just push harder.

 • Adaptability is the master skill of life. Loosening your grip on how things “should” look allows you to flow with change instead of being broken by it.

 • Keep the main thing the main thing. Identify the 20% of habits (whole food nutrition, consistent training, sleep) that produce 80% of your results — and give yourself grace to let the rest go.

 • You cannot supplement your way out of a wired, tired nervous system. Inner practices like meditation, prayer, or journaling are non-negotiable for true, lasting health.

 • Physical health isn’t the destination — it’s the platform. A strong, energized body gives you the capacity to go deeper into life’s bigger questions.

 • Service fills your heart, but it doesn’t always fill your tank. Long-term giving requires equally intentional receiving and self-nourishment.

 • Good stress — eustress — is the only thing that has ever grown you. The goal isn’t to eliminate all stress, but to strategically apply the right kind.

 • Your capacity matches the container you step into. Intentional life design — events, goals, family rituals — brings out your highest self.

 • Build like nature builds. Think in ecosystems, not isolated parts — in your health, your relationships, and your personal growth.
